Is food dangerous?

It’s not a comforting thought but a lot of the food we put on our plates to eat is not safe. Of course, the marketing firms that sell us food would never want to talk about the problems in public. Their job is to highlight the good side, not the dark side, of food. But the national statistics tell a different story. The reality comes under two rather different headings. The first is all about food poisoning. Every now and again, you will see muted stories in the media reporting the recall of produce suspected of being the source of an E.Coli. Campylobacter or Salmonella outbreak. Most of the time, we ignore it. So, some bacteria was in the water used to irrigate the fields and the tomatoes made a few people sick. Except this is not something affecting a few people. According to the National Institutes of health, there are about 76 million cases of food poisoning every year. Put another way, you stand about a 1 in 3 chance of a bacterial infection every time you eat.

Now, in one sense, we can justify being calm about the risks because we have no choice. The industrial approach to stocking the shelves in our local stores with food is not interested in safety unless it clearly affects profits. Look around. There are no public demonstrations calling for government action, no right wing rants against farmers. So there is no investment in making food production safer. That makes it all the more ironic that the latest story about food poisoning should be about a popular, ready-to-drink, weight loss product. Regardless of flavor or date of manufacture, Unilever are quietly recalling every can currently out there in the market. The FDA has found evidence that the manufacturing process has been defective. Millions of cans have been contaminated with bacteria likely to cause diarrhea and vomiting. This busts the myth that processing food kills the bacteria.

The second darker side of food is the carbohydrate content. As almost everyone is aware, the majority of people around the world are overweight. In developed countries like the US, the obesity rate is reaching epidemic proportions. Given the clear medical evidence linking excessive weight to serious diseases and early death, it is reassuring that more people are considering a change to their diets. Eating smaller portions of more healthy food is a good first step to losing weight. However, Unilever’s recall of its leading diet product is a symptom of a different problem. People who want to lose weight have become the target of manufacturers eager to sell a range of weight loss products. Sadly, not all those products are effective or safe.

Here is a simple, uncontroversial statement. Diet products do not have to be approved by the FDA before they are sold. Drugs like acomplia do have to be tested to prove their safety and effectiveness. No-one has ever got food poisoning from a drug. So, if you want to control your appetite and feel comfortable on a lower calorie diet, buy acomplia. As to the food, you should consider switching to organic. It is more expensive but usually safer. Finally, join a political movement to encourage farmers and manufacturers to improve safety standards. Losing weight through diarrhea and vomiting is unpleasant.

The remedy to ED is much closer than you think

When we say “have a wonderful night” to some couples we surely do not mean for them to fall asleep right after they jumped into the bed. We wish them to have a loving night full of pleasant moments for both of them. Little do we know we say it. Some might get hurt by these words as they know for sure there won’t be anything pleasant in their night.

Men are very vulnerable when it comes to the sex subject. Of course, we don’t mean all men but when a problem is there letting everybody know it exits, men get sensible. There are plenty of reasons for men to experience complexes if their sexual life is not right. Everybody knows men express themselves like that – when their sexuality and their opportunities coincide – they are the happiest. But should those men do who can’t erect properly? Who feel miserable and shamed of being men not being able to satisfy their partner or themselves? Those men should go to doctor.

It is quite necessary for people to star trusting doctors. They are there to do their job and help you. Yes, help is part of the mission. Nobody wants to humiliate you and make you feel even worse than you already do. You physician will have to examine you but before that you need to make sure you tell him the whole story, mentioning every little detail. It might be awkward having to share your intimate details with another person but you have to come to terms with it. You doctor just needs to know.

Viagra is one of the most advertised products on the planet. This drug is so familiar with people that it is shocking. It has given millions of men the feeling of satisfaction and relief. Women could not even tell their men are on Viagra treatment and that is a big plus. Everything happened so naturally. Viagra is the drug you need prescription for. But the dose doctors will recommend to their patients will not be more than 50 mg taken before the sexual intercourse. The pill gives the immediate effect so you can take the drug one hour before the actual sexual event not having any worries about anything. But please remember that this is not a vitamin C. This is a strong drug that is forbidden to consume more than once a day as it gives their patients a long-standing result up to 30 hours. This means if you take more than 1 dose you will have an overdose – too much drug in your blood at once. As we are here to inform you about your erectile dysfunction pill we feel like it is our duty to tell you that Viagra is there to maintain the already existing erection or help men with it when they have sexual stimulation. If you are not sexually stimulated or if you don’t feel excited enough to have sex, Viagra is useless. Many different combinations have been tried with this drug. And the one that really seems to work is the simplest one. It consists of the drug treatment, healthy diet, no bad habits (such as smoking and drinking) and exercises.

We know many successful stories than are related to erectile dysfunction medication. If you have a nice story to tell or share your views on the subject with the world – please email us with those. We hope your nights are good!

No real threat to eyesight

This takes us back a few years to a time when stories began to surface about adverse side effects to the use of drugs used to treat erectile dysfunction. Men had begun to report changes to their eyesight. One or two men apparently lost their sight for short periods of time. On many occasions when side effects are reported under the Postmarketing Surveillance Program, the FDA does not react immediately. Sometimes, it does not react at all. Without going into the politics of its role, some critics suggest the FDA is in the pocket of the pharmaceutical industry and would never react to reports of side effects unless the evidence is too public and overwhelming to ignore. That’s what made it all the more surprising when the FDA decided to apply a watered down version of the precautionary principle to erectile dysfunction drugs. Just so we all understand, the precautionary principle says you pull a product off the market until it is proved safe. Since proving the negative is difficult, this can mean the product is off the market for a long time. With erectile dysfunction drugs, we are talking about retail sales in excess of one billion dollars in 2008. You do not mess with this market by shutting it down. The most you can do is change the label to warn users of potential dangers.

In July, 2005, the FDA issued a notice acknowledging rare reports of eye problems. The notice did not accept there was evidence of a link between the drugs and the vision problems. It simply advised men affected to seek emergency aid if the rare event affected them. From a scientific point of view, there is a strong likelihood of a link. These drugs target PDE5 in the body. The relevant arteries in the eye are controlled by PDE6. The drug may not be completely specific in all bodies and the effect on PDE5 may shade into PDE6. That said, the pharmaceutical industry had a marketing problem. Even though everyone acknowledged these were extraordinarily rare events, the release of the notice by the FDA did cause some alarm. The industry therefore commissioned some research which was published this year in the Archives of Ophthalmology. It’s good news. Some 250 men men with good eyesight and erectile dysfunction were recruited and given various dosages of the drugs, one pill per day for six months. Their vision was routinely monitored throughout the trial period. There were no significant differences found between their sight before and after the period. There was no measurable effect of any kind in any of the men (except their erections, of course).

One word of caution. To be able to generalize from one sample to the population at large, there should be more men included in the trial. Only 250 men is not statistically significant. That said, this is a detailed study and the results are encouraging. Viagra has not been given an absolutely clean bill of health, but this comes close. If the industry can be persuaded to recruit a sufficient number for the next trial, we can arrive at a definitive result. While we wait, buy viagra online with complete confidence. There is no evidence anyone has ever lost their sight because of this drug.

Bariatric surgery unsafe – Phentermine safe!

By some standards, there is a disturbing social trend where people choose the easy way to achieve the desired results. At one end of the spectrum are the people who, when they disagree with the tax authorities, crash their light airplanes into the tax offices – there is no quicker and easier way to register your unhappiness. And then there are the rapidly increasing number of people who opt for bariatric surgery to lose weight. In fact, the number of operations performed in the US has doubled over the last six years. No more struggle to keep to a diet and exercising. Just a quick and easy operation to solve all your weight problems. So how safe is it? Well, such evidence as exists suggests the operation is a success in up to 44% of all cases. With just one surgical intervention, your body mass index (BMI) falls rapidly and there are no complications. But, in up to 56% of cases, the surgeons feel they have to recommend what is delicately called revisional surgery, usually because you have not lost enough weight, but also because some experience “complications” – another delicate term suggesting there is a chance of death unless the surgeon goes back inside to do repairs. And this is where the statistics get exciting. The death rate during or following revisional surgery used to be 50%. But, the death rate has been dropping as surgeons gain more experience and technology improves.

The latest research comes out of Greece. It confirms the drop in the death rate, but finds a continuing high rate in “complications” over an average of eight years following the second procedure. Surgery was performed on people with a BMI average of 47, which is high and may partly explain why complications were more common. For the record, the patients who repeated the operation because they had not lost enough weight dropped from an average BMI of 55 to an average of 35 – a drop of almost 70% in their excess weight. More generally, Greek surgeons keep almost everyone alive, but these people are still badly damaged. A recent report from the US claims that, following the gastric bypass procedure, only 10% of patients have revisional surgery, but it is admitted the percentages increase for the other types of surgery. Unlike Greece, there have been no research projects collecting evidence over longer periods of time. Literally, no-one knows the current rates of complications or death related to revisional surgery.

It is not the purpose of this article to suggest you should never have bariatric surgery. Some who have tried and failed to lose weight the conventional way should consider the option. But it is not unfair to point out that no-one dies from eating a healthy diet, supported by the use of phentermine hcl. There are no complications of bile leaking internally from the site of an operation. Yes, there may be some injuries if people begin too violent a program of physical exercise. With the help and supervision of therapists, this risk can be minimized. What can be said is that the death rate from people who eat sensible amounts and buy phentermine online is insignificant when compared to surgery. Given the international rates for revisional surgery (not contradicted by any US research), you might decide the risks of complications are just too great. With fifty years of proven effectiveness, phentermine hcl helps more people lose weight safely than surgery.
